The important path November 11, 2012 English 212 We would all like to be in control of our lives or be the decision makers of our day to day living, with that; we all need a good education and a strong background. We all have goals growing up of being doctors, lawyers, fire fighters or even an explorer, who has great adventures like Indiana Jones. These dreams all must start from somewhere in reality. Just like the plot of a movie, it all must start somewhere, which brings me to my subject, why a college education is very important.
I would like to discuss the paths we take in life and how our decisions affect us in the long run and how our decisions now, either bring us further or closer from accomplishing that we set for ourselves, how life is a game of chess and each move is just as important as the first one or as fulfilling as your last. Life is not an overnight adventure, you have day to day trials and tribulations where we must all utilize our best judgment, for today and for our future, and that is why college and the path we take today are so important because it leads us to the future that we all dream of.
In the first few years of high school, just like me, students begin to question, what’s the importance of a college education? Why is so important, what will I gain there that I can’t gain on my own without? The thought of many young kids, just like me, about to graduate, is to immediately generate some sort of income. We must choose and think openly about the correct path because the importance of a college education has become quite evident in the terms of earning potential within today’s economy. Although a higher education may become one of the largest expenses you may ever have, it may just as well be the smartest investment to make.
We all think of our lives after high school and how we plan to live with high hopes and expectations. A nice home, a car, two kids, a dog and a big yard, although most of the time we don’t think of the time and dedication we must put in to accomplish these things. Unfortunately, the information age leads to a lot of vast technology and fast living that takes away from some of the small things that help kids build the dedication they need before leaving high school. Majority of students, do not exactly know what they want to achieve once they get into today’s society.
Many of them take things for granted, majority tend to go with the flow of the real world and end up never dreaming big or learning how to take it to the next level, but when students go to college they are exposed to so many activities which includes student projects, field trips, sports, jobs and many more. With this a student learns many new things in the same perspective whether or not they use in their life or in the future, the students learn how to survive in the world just by going to college, college helps them see their dreams much further than simply completing high school.
College degree can give hope to a student that can achieve success even if they are lacking in some skill. Hope is a necessity in life, since it helps us become more determined and confident in life which helps us achieve success. The experience in itself is a great reason in itself to go to college. It is a very trying time with social life, schoolwork, and it helps translate a young teen to become a young adult. During this time the student learns the severity of real life and the dedication to achieving goals, tasks and time deadlines.
All these experiences help to make a better student and a well rounded person who can multitask when the pressure is high. These are all characteristics of a person who would succeed and do well in the job market today and of course getting a college degree is very important but a college experience itself brings a change for the better or worse for the student’s morale. College doesn’t start or end all inside of a book. Students learn a long line of life lessons and social skills that will help them to adapt in any situation.
We will all have a lot of time to do the things that we want to do in life but some of the most important paths that we choose to take happen early in our lives. Trying to make the best chess move to solidify the promise of success of the days to come, in three to five years to help us define who we are as individuals. College, a place for people who strive to reach higher goals and not to settle for anything lower than their own wants. When choosing a path to our own future, choose the path that has more promise, more options and a more solid foundation then the things you see out your indow. Trust your instincts and follow the facts that college is a great place for people who want to strive to do better, live better and to be better.
