Unit 3
Promoting
Good Health
AO1
In this part of my coursework I will be defining and understanding what health and well being is. Also naming and explaining the aspect of health and the models of health.
The definition of health
My definition is that health is the state of physical, mental, social well being. Health is not just affected by an individual’s lifestyle choice, but also by environment and people.
In 1948 the World Health Organisation (WHO) defined health as “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” This definition received mush criticism for a number of reasons which was that it was offensive to people that were suffering physical, mental and social well-beings who was classed by the government that they are not healthy because of the disabilities that they have. That healthy only means when a person is physically healthy that you are entirely healthy on all ways. This WHO’s definitions means that healthy means is someone that is good at physical things, without mental problems and good at social skills. This was then changes in 1984 to “The extent to which an individual or group is able, on the one hand, to realise aspirations and satisfy needs and on the other hand, to change and cope with the new environment. Health is therefore seen as a resource of everyday life, not the object of living; it is a positive concept emphasising social and personal resources as well a physical capabilities.” I think this is a better definition because it involves all people with disabilities that can cope with life. It is also not offensive to people that do have disability as it does not single them out and does not class them as unhealthy because of things that they cannot do certain thngs. It means that you are healthy if you can cope with everyday life. It is good because it focuses on health being much more than just physical health. It is a better definition as it includes everyone and recognises that everyone is different in their own ways and can be health in_differentways.
Accepts of health
There are six accepts of health which are physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, societal health. Physical health is to do with are bodies, It is the mechanical ability of the body to move around and how the body functions well e.g. capable to run, walk, etc. Physical health is probably the easiest aspects to see and measure. Mental health is the ability to think clearly and logically also to control their emotions and their behaviour. Emotional health is the ability to express to recognise emotions and express them appropriately such as happiness, anger, sadness, also to cope with depression, stress and anxiety, also to be able to cope with depression, stress and anxiety. Social health is the interaction with friends and family, Also the ability to make and maintain relationships with other people. Spiritual health is unique to each individual because attaining peace of mind or religious beliefs and practices or their own personal beliefs or principles. Societal health which is how the societal has an impact on is individual health that a persons health if linked to everything in the society that surrounds a person.
Concepts of health and well-being
There are different types of concepts of health which are positive, negative and holistic. Negative health is that health and well-being can be described as the absence of physical illness, disease and mental distress. A negative way of looking at health and well-being could be that you don’t have any physical illnesses, mental distresses and you don’t have any diseases. Positive health is health and well-being can be described as the achievement and maintenance of physical fitness and mental stability, for example when someone keeps a good following of their physical fitness and mental stability, meaning if they want to be healthy they have to look after themselves more in all ways. Holistic is health and well-being are a result of a combination of physical, social, intellectual and emotional factors, when a person thinks that all the different aspects of health are combined together and have an impact on each other. For example when a person is in a emotional state like suffering from depression this will affect the persons physical, social, intellectual and emotional factors. Also with these there are other different concepts of health which are personal responsibility for health, health as an absence of illness and holistic concepts.
Personal responsibility for health is a positive view on health because people feel to have a responsibility for looking after themselves and making sure that they are well, and by doing this the person will be careful to eat the right foods which are nutritious healthy foods for example fresh fruit and vegetables, wholegrain cereals, lean protein foods etc. Also to have a healthy life style they will limit or stop the amount if alcohol intake, stopping or less smoking and have regular exercise. They would also have regular checks at the doctors to ensure everything in the body is good and to check for any diseases for example to have regular screenings like smear tests. People that take responsibility for their health are more likely not to suffer from serious diseases.
Health as an absence of illness is a negative view of health because people dont take action to their illness because their symptoms haven’t taken place yet and they think that they will not get ill but still is healthy. This is that absence of any symptoms of illness, such as aches or pains, is seen as good health. For example they would not view themselves as ill if they had a hangover or if they had a cold.
Holistic comes from whole holistic concept of health is considered the whole person rather than just the separate aspects of health. It recognises that each aspects of health impact on one another, for example, if you are emotional upset you’re mental and physical health can be affected also your social and spiritual health might be affected. It recognises that each one of the aspects of health impacts on the others. It is very difficult to separate the aspects of health as they have a good relationship between person’s physical, mental and spiritual aspects of life. Holistic concepts of health view is achieving and maintaining good health by involving all aspects.
Illness-wellness continuum
The illness wellness continuum is a scale to show how lifestyle choices, e.g. smoking, becoming ill and things like regular check ups with a doctor. It is a model that shows many levels of illness which can move you between high level wellness and pre mature death. This continuum shows us that most people could improve their health to best wellness for example if they notice any signs or symptoms they can go to the doctor and they will prescribe any medication to stop the illness to progress to pre-mature and enables the patient to return to neutral point. When the patient has reached neutral point they can then build up their health and wellness. This also includes there physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual aspects of health. The diagram above shows when moving from the centre to the left indicates that you are closer to premature death, But moving from the centre to the right means and increase of health and well-being. From looking at the diagram it shows the earlier you treat any symptoms then the easier I for the patient to return to is normal health.
Perspectives of health
Steve is a 24 year old student and is at university and represents an average persons point of view. He is a lay-person. He moved away from home to go to university, and has socialised with people who have influenced him in a bad unhealthy lifestyle. He does not have a healthy diet as he drinks alcohol and smokes a lot. He does not exercise and gets stressed easily. He gets influenced not peer pressured.
Steve’s definition of health is that it is physical and mental health, as he says not having too much stress and exercising and eating well. He focuses on his own experiences for example he says all the opposite things of himself, he focuses on positive aspects, the things that you should do for example ‘not having too much stress, exercising and eating healthy foods’. He focuses on the psychical and emotional factors that affect health for example exercising and not being stressed. The factors that Steve thinks affect his health are social, environment, physical, emotional, mental, and all these are holistic concepts. Steve thinks that holistic and external influences his health. Steve knows that the things that he does are affecting his health. He thinks that things that could to be healthier are to smoke and drink less, have his five a day. He knows that what he is doing is affecting his health this is personal responsibility for his health, which he is not taking much responsibility for it. The reasons for Steve’s holding these views are that he is now addicted, that he is influences on social health. He wants to ‘to live life to the full’ as every person wants to and this shows that he thinks like every other average person his age would that want to enjoy his life to the full and enjoy it. Also he isn’t that educated about health so he doesn’t really know much about.
Mark is Steve’s GP and is trying to improve Steve’s health his aim is for Steve to have a healthy lifestyle and by doing this by reducing his smoking, drinking and increasing his physical side. He is focusing on Steve’s body. Mark sometimes smokes only when he is with socialising with his friends and having a good time.
Mark definition is much better then Steve’s, he defines the inside of the body ‘the body organs working properly and in harmony. There’s no dysfunction or disease within the body’. He involves all health. His definition of health is negative view to health and also it goes with absence of illness because he says that healthy means nothing wrong with the body. The factors that Mark think that affect his health are physical and attitudes and prejudices towards health professionals. When he was asked what he thinks influences his health he doesn’t talk about himself but about t other people’s health, “health of others”. He talks about the internal of the body. Mark think that the way he could be healthier is having test done and at a medical point of view. The reasons that Mark is holding these views are because he is educated in this subject a lot, because of his job. He had an educational and his professional has a medical point of views about health.
The concept that I think that Mark and Steve fit in with are holistic because they both think that health and well-being are a result of combination of physical, social, intellectual and emotional factors.
Models of health
The biomedical model of health
This is the use of scientific factors to verify an illness, is to cure people that suffering from any diseases or illnesses. Understanding of how the various parts of the body might work together to ensure good health. If someone feels ill, they will see a doctor who will diagnose the problem then provide some medication or recommend an operation depending on the symptoms. The biomedical model of health looks at individual physical functioning and describes bad heath and illness as presence of disease and ill symptoms as a result of physical causes such as injury or infections. It suggests that the body and mind are separate, and the cause of illness rely on the physical body. The biomedical only concentrates on the individual. The biomedical suggests that drugs and surgery are the only curse to illnesses. According to this model, health is an absence of disease. The biomedical model of health is dealing with acute or short term illness. The biomedical model views health as the absence of disease. The model of mostly used by members of the health care professions for example the NHS.
The social model of health
The social model of health looks at how society and our environment affect our everyday health and well-being, including factors such as are social class, poverty, poor housing, diet, pollution and income. Social model does not look for physical cause of ill health or illness but recognises that there could be other factors that can contribute to a person’s state of health. It also recognises that ill health concerns can sometime be cured by attending to social conditions. For example if a person is living in poor conditions that are not appropriate this can lead to illnesses accruing to the person. For example, moving them to a better, more appropriate environment that will decrease their chance of getting any diseases and will make them feel better.
Mark- biomedical model
Mark’s views are similar to biomedical model because of his occupation which deals with illnesses and disease. Also understanding the body and outlining if anything is wrong with the body.
Steve- social model
Steve’s views are similar to social model because he has an external point of view. His views are similar as he has a lay person point of view. He fits in with social model because he gets affected by society e.g. his friends and the environment that his lives in. He is affected by his society because his friends are a bad influence on him as they pressure him in to going gout and drinking. When he goes out he gets behind on his work and then stresses about university ten to calm him down he will start smoking. The environment has an impact because he is living in a accommodation that is no healthy.
Comparison of models
• Biomedical model focuses on physical health on how the body functions, but social model focuses on society and environment that affect everyday health and well being.
• The idea of the biomedical model is an absence of illness because they believe that if the body is functioning well then they are perfectly fine and healthy and they have nothing wrong with them, whereas the idea of the social model is holistic because it looks at all the aspect of health and how it can have an impact on your life and your health.
• The biomedical model is based on the biological scientific factors of disease and illness, and what the symptoms and the treatment for it. The social model researches on the governmental health strategies to improve people’s health and make good changes in their life.
• The biomedical model focuses on specialist medical services which are highly valued but the social model recognises that people awareness of their own health is often at chances with those of professionals.
• The biomedical model focuses on doctors and other professionals diagnose and agree treatment but the social model will value doctors opinions but will analyses lifestyle from perspectives of the researchers in society.
Why people fail to conform to health education advice?
Individuals fail to conform to health education advice as most of them do it to socialise with people for example smoking or drinking, and by them socialising they then become addicted to it so they will carry on. Some do it because they are peered pressured, bored, imitating other or social influenced. Simple that they enjoy doing it and are having fun they will ignore health educated advice. For example a drinker will know that drinking too much is dangerous but still will go out on the night and don’t car e how much they have drank because they are enjoying themselves. Also people may not exercise or eat healthy as they cannot afford it or don’t have the time. People may also fail to conform health education advice as they are suffering from depression and are in an emotional depression so they want care about their health and want something that they can escape in and be stress free.
Steve fails to conform health education advice
Steve’s fails to conform health education because he hasn’t had much education about health. Also that he still is a student so he won’t be getting a lot of money to spend on going to the gym or buying healthy food so will buy cheap food like take always which will be rich in fats. As he is a student he won’t have time to cook a meal or have time to exercise ad he will be studying and working. He is also a smoker so has become addicted to it and can’t stop, also that his friends influence him on going out to get drunk which he will go as he still wants to enjoy his life as he is young. So Steve doesn’t take any notice about his health as he can’t afford it, has no time, and wants to enjoy his life. Also he might not take any notice because we don’t know about his family background; they might not have been healthy and too failed to conform health education advice.
Mark fails to conform health education advice
Mark is a social smoker I think he fails to conform to health education advice as he only does it when his out with his friends and he hasn’t got no symptoms from smoking so he thinks that he is ok to carry on.
Factors affecting health and well being
There are six different categories of health and well-being factors. They are attitudes and prejudices, lifestyle choices, social factors, environmental factors, financial factors and physical factors.
Attitudes and prejudices
Attitudes and prejudices can decide our attitudes to health and have a significant impact in determining our own health and well-being. Attitudes involve beliefs and values. Many people have different attitudes towards professionals help on health because that can be afraid of going to see the GP about something that the person feels embarrassed about. An increasing importance has been the growing distrust by the general public of health professionals and the health advice they provide. It is a personal matter, if someone has a positive attitude towards health they would exercise and try to be healthy. For example a person may feel that if they go to the doctors about a skin problem, they will be lectured to give up the sun bed. That they feel that they are creating a fuss about nothing so then will forget about it. A lot depends on our attitude to health.
Lifestyle choices
Health is a simple matter of lifestyle choices, it is a personal choice. Health choices are often difficult for anyone to make, but where people do not feel in control of their environment of their personal situation. So for people that find it difficult they need motivation, opportunity and support from others. For example if someone doesn’t have money they can’t afford healthy food so they will tend to buy unhealthy food. So lifestyle affects health because people find it difficult to make healthy choices in life. So in life people make their own choices which sometimes lead to unhealthy choices for example smoking.
Social factors
Social factors can affect health as it depends on the class of families that the people grow up, where they live, occupation and what they think is normal and not. For example if a child grows up in a family that swears they will think it normal and will also imitate their family and will talk like this too. Another example is when children see their parents or members of their family smoking, drinking or eating unhealthy they will think this is normal and will do the same as they think it is correct. If children do this they will become unhealthy and it will find it hard to change when they are older.
Environmental factors
Environment can affect health is it depend on where they live. For example if they live in the inner city their will be more pollution and this can affect a persons breathing and their lungs. Another factor that will affect a person health about environment is if a person is living in a poor accommodation that is not safe or unhealthy because it had damp, dusty, pollution and noise pollution. This can affect the person living their as they can get ill or have disease that can have an impact on their life.
Financial factors
Financial factors can affect a person life as they might not have a good occupation and will then have a low income. This can affect them as then they cannot afford to healthy food and will buy cheap foods which are unhealthy. People will also think about how much money they have and the and what they can spend it on, for example food, bills or clothes and also think about if they have children. So people that are in this situation wont be worried about their health but if they can afford to live.
Physical factors
Physical factors can affect people with disabilities for example if a person is in a wheelchair and cant walk, and the only way that they can see their GP is to go up a slope, and if they don’t have the access at the GP they wont go. People with disabilities affect their health as they don’t go out much or check up on their health as they can’t access a way in or out of a building.
Lifestyle choice case study
Short term effects of Steve’s lifestyle choices at university
The lifestyle choices that will affect him physically is when he gets drunk he won’t be able to control his body so will not know what he is doing, so he might get in to fight and get hurt. When he gets his hangover, he will be too tired and too hung over to do anything. This will have an impact as then and then he won’t concentrate probably on his studies and work or will miss it. Also Steve smoking and drinking will affect his heart rate and blood pressure. Steve’s physical endurance will decrease as he will be also losing weight because his appetite will reduce. He will be more likely to suffer from coughs and colds so this may lead him missing out on his studies. His heart rate and blood pressure will increase. Steve’s physical appearance will be affected to as he will have bad breath, fingers and teeth will be yellow, bad skin, making him look older then he is. He could be at risks at getting STI’s because when he is drunk he might have sex as he won’t be able to control his body.
The lifestyle choices that will affect him intellectually is when he has an hangover he will either miss university or wont concentrate on his work so he will get behind on it.
The lifestyle choices that will affect him emotionally is that he will have heighted emotions when he is drunk, this could get him in to trouble and maybe hurt. He will be stress because he will be behind on his studies and worried about failing university.
The lifestyle choices that will affect him socially is him being sociable, if he is drunk he might get into the wrong group of friends. Steve drinking and smoking so much that he will start to smell and then his friends don’t want to hang around with him. Also when Steve is drunk he won’t control his emotions so he will l has an argument with anyone. His fingers, nails, and teeth will be yellow so this will have an effect on his relationships with people.
Short term effects of Steve’s lifestyle choices when at home
The lifestyle choices that will affect him physically is that he will have more energy to do things and will be more lively as he will then have stopping from going out binge drinking and stopped smoking. So he will saving his money and can spend on healthy food for himself or maybe for a gym member. His physical appearance should be better as she should be getting his appetite back and will add more weight on. Also that he will add more weight because he will have cooked meals at home which will be healthy. He will be healthier as he is doing activities which are surfing so this will be his exercising.
The lifestyle choices that will affect him intellectually is that he will be able to catch up with his work and will be able to concentrate more on his work, because he won’t be going out clubbing and will concentrate more on his work.
The lifestyle choices that will affect him emotionally are that he will be happier and will be less stressed to do things because he will catching up on his work so he won’t be worried about that and will be doing activities that he enjoys so he will be happy doing this.
The lifestyle choices that will affect him socially are that he might make new friends from the activities that he goes to and this will build his self esteem up. Also by making new friends this is good as they might influence him in a good healthy lifestyle.
Long term effects of Steve’s lifestyle choices at university
The lifestyle choice that will affect him physically are that his addiction for smoking will be stronger and he will smoke more and will be difficult to stop. His weight will increase as he will be drinking more and eating unhealthy food, because of this he could have health problems for example heart disease, cancer or strokes. He could suffer from diseases from him smoking, drinking and him not eating healthier for example he could have cancer and this would affect aspects of his life.
The lifestyle choices will affect him intellectually is that by Steve drinking and smoking so much this can lead him into damaging his brain cells, and him not concentrating on his work he might not passing but failing university.
The lifestyle choices that will affect him emotionally are that if he does suffer from a disease this could affect him by him being depressed or suffer from anxiety. He will suffer from depression and have low self esteem and his stress will increase.
The lifestyle choices that will affect him socially is that he might have a decrease or increase in friends, depends on what type of friends for example the ones that go clubbing every night.
Long term effects of Steve’s lifestyle choices when at home
The lifestyle choices that will affect him physically is that he will fitter and healthier because he will be having cooked healthy food from his parents. Steve exercise will increase and his chance of having a disease will decrease because he is eating healthier, exercising more, and that he will have stopped drinking and smoking.
The lifestyle choices that will affect him intellectually is that he will have caught up with all his work and will be passing university and a chance of being successful in life.
The lifestyle choices that will affect him emotionally is that he will be happier and proud with his family that will help him and influence him in being healthier, they will be supporting him to eat healthy and making sure that he won’t start smoking and drinking. That he will have less stress and pressure on him because he will have family there to support him.
The lifestyle choices that will affect him socially is that he can have more time to socials with friends that are supporting him and have a stronger bond with his friends and family.
How lifestyle could affect a child
Children can be affected in different ways in their lifestyle, because they will have their parent or guardian to support them and guide them. For example their parent/guardian will teach them wrong and write when growing up, about them not eating too much sugary foods because it is unhealthy. But also parent/guardian may also influence the child into to doing unhealthy things for example like they might smoke in front of the child and the child will want to imitate them as they think it is ok. Children can also be influenced; peer pressured or imitated other children because they don’t want to feel left out, for example children drinking other will want to join.
How lifestyle could affect an older adult
Older people can be affected by lifestyle choice that they make because they don’t always make the right ones, for example drinking and smoking too much will affect their health and will be dangerous to them.
Environment case study
Short term effects of Steve’s environment whilst at university
The environmental factors that will affect him physically is the dust around the house which triggers the asthma attacks, and the pollution from the area that he is living in as this isn’t good for his breathing and his asthma, the environment that they are in is not appropriate to live in as it is not healthy. It is not appropriate to live in as it only accommodates three people there and there are six people there, also that it is untidy and dirty which is unhygienic. Steve’s asthma will get worse as there is a very high pollution and dust particle which is dangerous for Steve, this can cause him having more asthma attacks and coughing more.
The environmental factors that will affect him intellectually are not him having a place to concentrate properly on his work as he has too many distractions for example his friends and the traffic from outside and this will cause him on being behind on his work.
The environmental factors that will affect him emotionally are that him getting frustrated and angry with his mates not being tidy, not giving him time to study and no privacy in the house.
The environmental factors that will affect him socially are that tension might build up between friends in the house because they don’t give him peace when doing his work and that they don’t tidy up.
Short term effects of Steve’s environment whilst at home
The environmental factors that will affect him physically is that he will have clean air to breathe and he won’t have as many asthma attacks. He will have more space and privacy for himself. He will be less tried and healthier as he can catch up with his sleep. Be healthier as he can go for walks to the town.
The environmental factors that will affect him intellectually are that he will have his own space to his work and won’t get distracted by anyone so he can then concentrate more on his work and this will help as he can then catch up with the work he has missed, and this will be easier as he will have his own room and more space to do his work.
The environmental factors that will affect him emotionally he won’t get stressed and frustrated much because he has his own privacy to do his work. He will be more relaxed and not tense as he can then do what he wants. He will also be happier as he has his own space and that he won’t get frustrated at others.
The environmental factors that will affect him socially are that he won’t see his friends much and not have that much of a bond with them. But can make new friends from the town which is five miles away. He will also be able to bond with his family more as he will spending more time with them.
Long term effects of Steve’s environment whilst at university
The environmental factors that will affect him physically are that his asthma will get worse and other inflammatory lung disease might affect them, he will also have breathing problems. The conditions of the house might affect their living conditions of them having to move.
The environmental factors that will affect him intellectually is that him not being able to do his work which could lead him in not passing university, also he might give up on doing his work and going to university as he cannot concentrate and has no space.
The environmental factors that will affect him emotionally is Steve might suffer from depression and anxiety as he will smoke more because he will be under more pressure about work. He will be getting angry as he hasn’t got his own personal space and privacy and start lashing out on his friends. Steve getting more stressed of him not being able to do his work and concentrate properly and him getting angry at his friends. This could lead into arguments.
The environmental factors that will affect him socially are him always hanging around with the same people and he might get feed up of them, and not having his own privacy so not having other relationships.
Long term effects of Steve’s environment whilst at home
The environmental factors that will affect him physically are that Steve asthma might have improved and might not have it at all because there is better air quality at home. He will have less chance of suffering from any illnesses or disease. That he is living in the countryside he can go for walks or jogs and this will keep him healthy.
The environmental factors that will affect him intellectually he will have time to do more studying or get a job that he will enjoy and earn because he won’t be getting any distractions and he can concentrate properly.
The environmental factors that will affect him emotionally are him being happier and not being stressed over things as he will have caught up with his work and will be enjoying the activities that he does.
The environmental factors that will affect him socially are he will have a closer bond with his family and maybe have a decrease or increase of friends.
How environment could affect a child
Children are more likely to be affected by asthma as there is more pollution and they have a sensitive immune system and are easier to catch illnesses or diseases. For example living in the inner city for a child can affects their lungs as the environment there is filled with pollution. The surrounding that a child lives in can affect its behaviour and the opportunities that are available to them, for example a child living in a urban area will have different opportunities to a child living in a rural area. Also environment can affect a child depending on the area that they live in for example they might not live in a safe area for the children to play outside.
How environment could affect older people
Adults can be affecting by the environment for example the pollution which can cause older adult illness or some disease. Also noise pollution which can aft older adults as this can lead them from having hearing loss.
Quality of life
Quality of life means the general well-being of individual and their society. Quality of life involves wealth, employment, environment of which the person lives in, physical and mental health, education and their social belongings. It refers to someone’s individual emotional, social and physical well-being and their ability to cope with living activities in life.
Quality of Life is an estimate of an individuals health status related to the individuals age, expectations lifestyle choices, physical and mental capabilities, also how they can be affected.
Quality of Life is something that is commonly used by care professionals when they are trying to help people who use the service make decisions concerning care near the end of life. Most of the time people using the service are told by care professionals what will happen to them before and after the illness has taken place, and how they can try to cope with. Quality of life can affect your daily routines as you will be unable to do some things that individuals used to do before, and individuals will feel as if they are losing their independence because they will start to need a lot of professional help along with help from families and friends. Quality of life can also start to affect individuals physically, emotionally and socially because the symptoms of the illness will start to have an impact on their life, stopping them doing some of the things they used to do, they will start to feel even more depressed as they are unable to do things on their own an the fact that their family and friends have to do many things for them which can probably affect their relationship as they may get irritated that they have to do all the work that they are really upset that the individual is in such a state. An example of an illness that can affect the quality of life is heart failure. Heart failure is when the heart is unable to circulate blood around the body, causing the heart to stop beating making the heart weaker, and the fluid around the heart starts to build up, causing congestion in the lungs. This affects the quality of life for an individual because they start to get more and more disabled through time and they need to be cared for in a nursing home.
As Steve has many bad habits of smoking and drinking, this can affect his quality of life as he can get disease such as lung cancer, heart disease and many more. Steve won’t be able to live life the way he did, because the illnesses/disease would start to make a big impact on his body, his life and his family as he won’t be able to do anything, his body will physically become useless, emotionally he will start to have a low self esteem as he wont feel to good about himself, intellectually he’s mind will start to slow down therefore this will cause him to lose all the strength to do university work, therefore he will fall behind and socially he wont be able to mix with people because he wont be able to get out of bed much and that people may keep a distance from him because of his illness. By all this Steve’s quality of life will be affected as he wont be able to do anything for himself and he will feel as if his a burden on his friends and family. Every step Steve takes he will either need help form family and friends or care professionals, so if Steve wants to prevent these things from happening he will have to take care of himself and slowly reduce the amount of smoking and drinking he does and then totally stop it, so that he has no chances at all to have any of the illnesses.
Older adults
Many older adult’s quality of life can be affected as they have done many things in their life, which they shouldn’t have and still no affect has taken place on them. But once adults start to age, all symptoms of any illness start to take place, causing older adults to feel weak, tired and very ill. Some older adults start to get arthritis which can cause swelling, inflammation and pain in the joints. It generally makes people feel tired and unwell. It can also make their hands or feet stiff, making them unable to hold things or carry out any activities using the hand or the feet.
Child
Some children’s quality of life can be affected when they start to have fast food, even though it is not good for them. It can turn them obese causing them to be tired all say long and it can also lead to many other illnesses and diseases, such as heart problems etc. Also they can be affected by the bad air from the outside as it can cause them to have asthma and breathing problems
Conclusion
Overall in this coursework there is information on how individual lives can be affected by lifestyle choices or by the environment, for example when they start to do the things they aren’t suppose to do, such as taking up bad habits or living in a bad environment, like a damp house and how individual’s health can be affected in a good and a bad way. There are also examples of Steve, older adult and a child. There are also definitions and aspects of health which are meant to be followed by everyone but everyone tends not to which leads them to having a bad health.
