Finally, hypnosis is often used in psychotherapy to help patients discuss painful memories whose inaccessibility is impeding progress. You can’t be hypnotized to do anything you don’t want to do, so you won’t reveal any personal secrets or accept any suggestions, which go against your ethical & moral codes. WHAT IF I CAN’T BE HYPNOTIZED? Only a very small percentage of the human population cannot be hypnotized, including some psychotics, people on certain medications and those with very low IQs. All that is required is average intelligence and a normal ability to concentrate. Although some studies show that entering a hypnotic state is easier for people who are bright and who have good imaginations, the key factor is your willingness to cooperate. WON’T BEING HYPNOTIZED WEAKEN MY WILL? On the contrary, hypnosis is frequently used to strengthen a person’s will. WHAT IF MY HYPNOTIST HAS A HEART ATTACK DURING A SESSION? WILL I BE STUCK IN HYPNOSIS? No.
You cannot be stuck in hypnosis. You would either fall asleep or wake up… and, I hope, perform CPR! IS IT TRUE THAT EACH TIME I AM HYPNOTIZED, IT BECOMES EASIER FOR ME TO ENTER A HYPNOTIC STATE? Yes. WILL YOU MAKE ME RUN AROUND THE ROOM AND IMITATE ELVIS? Not unless you ” re an Elvis impersonator and you ask me to enhance your skills.
