It is true,”People living in major cities are mosaic of the society, from which they belong”. Hence I believe if someone really wants to get a prospective about a society, one should study its major cities first.
Major cities have always been the center of power, economy and politics in any civilization. People from all over the states migrates from their homes to a common place, carrying their tradition, culture and life-style along with them to their new dwelling. Creating the perfect place to find all cultural and traditional evolution that has ever happened. Take India for example. India (Mohinjo Daaro) has been one of the first civilization ever flourished in this world. Since that time, till date after being home for Persian, Mughals and Britishers for centuries; cities like Delhi, Kolkatta and Mumbai provides you a perfect convolution of traditions and culture ever existed.
India has always been alluring to the world. It has been a home for Persians, Mughal and Britisher for more than 1000 years. They brought new cultural heritage along with them. But evey time one thing remained common. Cities like Delhi, from where every one ruled this great nation. Still today you can get a glimpse of all these culture under on roof i.e. Old Delhi. Historical monuments like Red fort, Himayu tomb, Qutub Minar etc. give you indepth knowledge of their history. What place is better than cities like Delhi to study the amalgamation of their different cultures and formation of mixed culture that still prevails.
These cities has been the powerhouse of Indian economy for centuries. People from all over the states leave their homes to their new dwelling in search of prosperity. Leaving behind all they have ever know and loved, but bring along with their values, rituals, food, life-style, traditon and culture. In cities like Delhi, you can find people from all caste, creed and religion. Here Christmas is celebrated with same enthusiasm as Diwali or Eid. If you really look closer, these cities are a convolution of several societies living together in harmony. You want to explore the delights of Islamic food and music go to Old Delhi. You need to taste the real falour of punjabi food, just head towards Rajori Garden.
Major cities, not only attracts fortune seekers, but also young minds as cities are major hub of education. You can get to know not only about the past but also what today’s youth feel. By examining them you can really get an insight about how the society has evolved. What are the reasons that lead to such changes and where this particular society is heading in future.
To sum up, I would like to reiterate, Cities such as Delhi, has always been the best place to surge inside a society. To understand its complexities, its culture, its people, their problems and to get a better understanding of their future.
