I have recently read the Autobiography of Malcolm X as told by Alex Haley. This paper will contain views on how racism in society has changed in the past 30 years. Racism is a very debatable topic. People view racism differently in all aspects. Society has changed greatly since Malcolm X has made these statements.
He believes the government was the true racists. He states the government nourished a racist psychology in the minds of the white people. I believe the reason he thinks this way is due to the fact there were no black politicians during his days. Today the number of black politicians is on the increase. I think that since these statements were made a lot of different approaches have been made to reduce racism in everyday life. Also, the civil rights being passed as helped gain equal rights for blacks in the United States.
I have been fortunate to grow up in an area where racism is not much of a factor. The only racism I hear of is on the news. All the black leaders of today use racism as an excuse in today s society. For example, Jesse Jackson is always complaining about blacks getting tougher punishments than whites. Black leaders of today need to look at the equality the blacks get. They have come a long way since the days of great black leaders such as Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.
In my life racism is far from the problem it was in the 1960 s. In my opinion Malcolm X had a great part in making it this way. If Malcolm X were alive today, he would be using his stellar technique of recruiting new members to join his family, the Nation of Islam. Malcolm X was a great leader, he had the capability of convincing just about anything to somebody. Malcolm X today would travel the world. He would tell people about his tough times in life and how he found happiness in join the Nation of Islam.
He would explain that no matter what has been done in the past, you could redeem yourself and start a new life. Malcolm would build people s self esteem. He would show people they could achieve anything if they set their minds to the tasks ahead. I do not think Malcolm X s thoughts or believes would be different in today s society. I do, however, think Malcolm would not get along with whites the same way some blacks do today. The reason for this extends back to his childhood, when the white people continually mistreated him.
Those feelings are very difficult to overcome. Today, Malcolm would be very pleased in the progress blacks are making. I think Malcolm X would continue to preach today in convince blacks the right way in his mind. He would be very vocal in the events happening around the world. He would not be afraid to speak his mind. In conclusion, I believe racism is still a problem, however, it is not to the magnitude it was during Malcolm X s time.
Malcolm set a bar for all blacks to follow, he helped the world tremendously.
