September 11 th is a day that no one will soon forget. The terrorist attacks on New York City shook the U. S. and the entire world.
The thought of such a thing happening was unimaginable for people in North America. Their security was destroyed, and we came to the realization that we were never truly safe. How could this happen? While the U. S. was paying its attention to the hate within the country, they never realized that the hate would come from outside their world. People had to forget about their differences and band together as a nation.
Fear and tragedy brought the U. S. together with the rest of the world. Society had to step back out of its comfortable shell and open their eyes to what was happening. The anthrax scare only brought the country closer together and heightened the worlds fear.
The thought of terrorism in peoples homes caused an automatic panic that swept across the world. How was society going to deal with this? Could they? Hate will always exist in the world. September 11 th was only a very exaggerated example of what it can do. The fight will never be resolved until we do something about it.
We have to realize that we are not the only victims. The terrorists obviously had a reason for their actions, we only have to understand what caused it. This tragedy changed the changed the world forever, lets just hope that the change is for the better. The conflict between Northern and Southern Ireland has been going on for a very long time.
It’s amazing to think that religion would cause so much hate. These people are from the same country, but their difference in religion causes a massive barrier. The protestant party quitting the North Ireland government is not a wise choice at all. This will give London control over North Ireland again.
Ireland has had so many problems for so long that London’s involvement will only make things worse. The last Ireland needs is an outside force controlling what they do. This will cause more problems then they need right now. What Ireland needs is peace, but the Protestants party’s withdrawal will only cause more turmoil. Hate is so prevalent in the world today and we ” re too helpless to stop it.
A person’s religion should not cause someone to hate them. People are afraid of anything different from themselves, anything that doesn’t fit with their way of life. That’s not the way it should be. Difference should be embraced and cherished. The world just doesn’t work that way. That’s the problem that the Northern and Southern Irish are facing now.
Neither of them are at fault, no one is worse than the other. They are just so blinded by their hate that they can’t see past their differences and begin to get along. The Protestants party’s withdrawal may make or break the situation in Ireland. Only time will tell. Canada is facing a big problem. The shortage of workers in unbelievably evident.
Most employers are quick to let their older employees go, but they will soon have to change their strategy. In Canada, as well as in most countries, the older you get the less important you are to employers. The employers seem to believe that the older workers are les important than those who are younger. But, this is a very grave error they are making. These employers need to keep their older employees working now, as long as possible. This shortage will give new hope to the older generation in today’s society.
They will finally feel that they matter in society and not feel worthless and expendable. In other cultures the older citizens are revered and look to for support and guidance. They are considered the most valuable members of society. The older you are the more respect you receive. But, in North American culture this is totally opposite. The older generation is forgotten about.
They are sent off to nursing homes, as if they are some sort of problem that we can’t deal with. It seems that in Western Cultures the younger you are the more attention and respect you receive. The older people people are just brushed aside as the world passes them by. These job shortages are going to cause society to pay attention to the older generation. Instead of getting rid of workers as soon as possible, they are increasing the retirement age to ensure that workers will be available. This shortage is actually a blessing in disguise because the silent victims now have a chance to show what they can do.
Marijuana is a very sensitive subject to talk about these days. There are two sides of the controversy, which feel very strongly about their beliefs and convictions on the subject. Neither side is right or wrong, but the decision on what to do about it will side with one. To many in society, there is nothing wrong with smoking weed. They feel that it doesn’t hurt anyone, and it should be legalized. There is also the fact that it can be used for medicinal purposes.
The pain and discomfort from diseases like glaucoma, and cancer can be lessened with the taking of this drug. So why is it considered to be so bad? If it can help someone who is in pain then why not let them take it. I don’t see the harm in it at all. To people in society who are opposed to it, marijuana is just morally wrong. They see it as being evil and it should not be accepted in society. I believe that if these people ever got cancer or any other disease that could be helped by weed, they would change their minds about it.
Cigarettes are much more damaging than marijuana but they are still legal. Why is that so acceptable? In conclusion, the war over weed should not be happening. If the drug can relieve Peoples pain that I don’t see anything wrong with it. People should open their minds and realize that there are bigger problems to face in the world than one little drug. Many students in universities all over North America come from somewhere else in the world. These international students come here for the better opportunities than they could receive in their home countries.
These opportunities are not what they receive when they arrive. For many of the international students the move is not a very positive one. North American society seems to have a problem helping out those who are different then them. These students want a good education, and for people to sympathize with their needs and feelings. But they aren’t receiving this. The university officials don’t seem to have time for them.
These students need extra help adjusting to their new surroundings and the different culture they ” ve been brought into. I don’t want to call it a racial problem, but that’s what it seems to be. The international students are being ignored because of their differences. The school officials believe that they can push them around because they ” re not originally from here.
I don’t believe that’s very fair at all. I see these students in the cafeteria. They seem like outsiders, away from the rest of the population of the school. At first I thought they did this because they didn’t want to associate with us, but I soon realized that they didn’t feel comfortable enough here to speak to us. This lack of support is unfair and should be dealt with immediately. Every student should be treated the same, no matter what race, or where they come from.
Something has to be done as soon as possible before it gets any worse.
