A. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Eating together as family is a very important event a person must experience frequently. It’s a perfect time to have a conversation with them. It also gives you the opportunity to spend time with each one of them, talk to them about your friends or even, tell them how your day in school or in office went. While our smart phones and devices have brought us closer to the rest of humanity, it is the family meal that brings us closer to our own clan. But nowadays frequent family meal is a big concern in the community. Lots of teenagers don’t dine with their families anymore. This is because there are more competing distractions, more choices of activities outside the home and constant giving of information from modern technology.
During the day most of us are out in the community mixing with all kinds of people. This way, teens are learning about the world often without parental input. Even when everyone is home, individuals do their own thing. Perhaps the only opportunity of the day to talk with each other is at the dining table. The proposed study will be conducted to know the negative upshots of having infrequent family meals to teenagers and to convince families to be engaged in dining together more often.
B. OBJECTIVES
The main goal of the study is to know the effects of having infrequent family meals to teenager aging from fourteen to eighteen years old. Specifically, it aims to:
1.) Enumerate the effects of families not eating together to teenagers and
2.) Compare the effects of infrequent family meal to the effects of frequent family meals to teens
C. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The study aims to know the upshots of having infrequent family meals to teenagers. It will specifically seek to answer the question:
1.) What are the effects of having infrequent family meal to teenagers? 2.) What are the differences and similarities of the effects of the
frequent and infrequent family meals to teens?
D. SCOPES AND LIMITATIONS
Our study will be conducted during the month of October 2012. Questionnaires are to be given to approximately 40 teenagers aging from fourteen to eighteen years old. The study limits only in identifying the effects of infrequent family meals to teenagers with ages from fourteen to eighteen years old. This is because teenagers with ages from fourteen to eighteen years old tend to have more activities including part time jobs, sports, boyfriend and girlfriend and they have the transportation to do activities independently, thus, less chance to dine with families.
E. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
In many of today’s households, family dinners have become a thing of the past. With busy schedules held by both parents and children, many families rarely have time to eat together. The study aims to explore more the effects of having infrequent family meal to teenagers which will let future researchers benefit from this study. The study, if successfully executed, can show the negative upshots of infrequent family meal thus will convince families to dine together regularly. Not only it will develop better communication between the members of the family and promote better social life with other youths but in the same time will strengthen the bonds within the family.
