How would I go in describing this episode in my life? Working at a company for 4 (four) years, I thought that after having such a long time at a company it would be somewhat difficult to be fired or laid off from. Roettele Industries was the first company where I have worked at for a long period, and grown. When I started working there I was only 19? (neigh teen and a half) and at the age of 24 (twenty-four) I was fired. Who was Roettele Ind? I had no idea of this Ind. When I had woken up in the morning of May fourth nigh teen nighty three (05-04-93).
Unemployed I went to the agency of unemployment of Norwalk to fill out sum paper work, the papers that I had to fill out just happened to be in the department of a girl that I had already known from high school.
The girl that I knew was new at the job, just like I was new at looking for work. She had graduated from high school in 92. As for me I had just finished my G. E. D. and at that time wanted to do nothing more with school, to me “school was just holding me back’ from making money and so that I can get my car and take out my girlfriends out.
I don’t like to mention names so I’ll just call heir Alejandra. Alejandra was happy to see me there and was very eager to help me she wanted to give the best job that she could find threw heir computer at work, she had the biggest smile on heir face, from ear to ear. after a while like in five minutes she found a job that would be temporary, but at a good pay. she then told me to take this job while she secretly look for the best job there at work.
I agreed At the inter view I talked to the main boss. His name was Mark Roettele President of Reottele Ind. after talking to Mark for a few minuets he had asked me if it was O. K. that the job was temporary, and if I like to paint, I said that it was perfect.
he then asked if I could start the next day, witch was good for me. After Painting there warehouses for a month I was ready to take my friend Alejandra up on heir offer, not to long after one of the other bosses “Randy Reottele’ walked up to me and asked “would you like a change of jobs for a while’. I must of had a very strong look on my face because just then he laughed and said, “I thought you mite like that idea’, and that’s when I looked back and said YA! Hopefully it means more money to, Randy and I from there on got along fine (most of the time).
I never did take Alejandra up on heir offer after that. Working at Reottele Ind. for just a few years I not only grew up there mentally I grew in the company as well.
I started first as a painter then to punch press operator, forklift driver, punch press mechanic, al the way up to supervisor / mechanic , I felt by this time irreplaceable. I did not feel like I had the best job, I felt stuck, there was no way for me to grow any more. I had reached the top the only way to go from there is if two of the fore bosses had died, and not only that the company had started to pick up. So we had to work over time from eleven-hour shifts to twelve hours a day, the money was great but the personal time, after two years I was beginning to miss it. Monday through Friday where eleven hour to twelve hours and every Saturday was a seven-hour over time of GREEF. I was starting to miss the old times with my friends from school.
Vacation time was an event I was looking forward to all the time BUT I could not take the time of because I was the only one that could fix the dam machines, so I was just paid my vacation at the end of the years. It was so hard to take sum time of work it was even difficult to see the Doctors office for regular check ups. By the fourth year I have had enough. What I started to do was just call in sick so that I could have the day off, most of the time I would call on Fridays or Mondays so that I could have a three-day weekend. After a while it started to get old with the bosses so they started to worry about me, instead of firing me or writing me up they asked if I had been feeling good and that maybe I should go see a nutritionist.
At that moment I really felt appreciated but STUCK! Reottele Ind. in nine teen ninety seven (1997) had really hit an all time high as if there was not enough work, we started to take on so many jobs that the company was not able to keep up. This started to make mark (PRESIDENT) vary irritated and always chewing me for small reasons. By this time I really started to work in the over time in my absences of at work, which also got me into allot of ass chewing with the mark after he had enough of my absences.
Finally in January after a long and disserve d ten day vacation from x-mass. Two weeks into the month that felt like a year, because of the over time. Randy handed me a work order for a job that had to be completed by the end of the day, but he needed to know how much material was available. He wanted for me to go to the other end of the warehouse to ask and to bring all the material with me. The warehouse has three workers Luis the manager, Brandon the slitter, Eddie the grinder.
This day had already bin know to every body, that Mark was in not very cheerful mode, but I had no idea nor did I care because it just was not my day neither. At the warehouse I after a few minuets of looking and asking the others in where Luis might be, (that place should have some kind of tracking device because it is so big and complicated).
I finally found him and asked him if he find the material for me, “no problem’ he replied, and off he went until I was not able to see him or hear. Over the phone I called randy to ask what would he like for me to do meanwhile, his answer was to just wait. The inventory sheet was at hand so I decided to give a little hand in looking for the material and that is when mark walked in and found me doing according to him nothing.
The argument from that moment just went all in the worst, he and I just argued him more than me. I tried at first to explain but he was just drunk from what ever had upset him for that day, there was no reasoning and since I was not in the mud ether, I started to fight back hard with words. In that Luis came back with the material and handed it to me with that roll of rubber that weighed a good thirty pounds I through it at a file cabinet, which was smashed with no hop of ever fixing it. the argument was over, I just walked away and finished of the day with out ever running into Mark. I was so mad that that day after work I went home got drunk which was a bad idea destroyed some of my house from anger and called in sick the next two days. Returning to work after my days off I was fired (thats when I felt like my shoulders fell a good three feet I had bin so tens from working there that it felt like a big sine of relief) for having too many sick days.
Randy told me that he had enough of my absences I guess mark never told him about the argument which I thought that maybe was the reason for me being fired. I choose this for the essay because in the last few years of working at that comp. I had never in my life felt like I was being dominated by something else that I had no control over. Which is why I am determined to Finnish school so that I may make my future the way I see fit.
