Arab-Israeli Conflict The Chicago Tribune published an article by Ray Moseley entitled Arab-Israeli street battles claim more lives? , which examines the continuous struggle for peace in the Middle East. This article discusses how many Arabs are being killed at the hands of Israeli soldiers. These killings as horrible as they seem, are not uncalled for. Arabs have been known in the past to attack Israel when they are least expecting (the Six day war, and the Yom Kippur War of 1973).
This time a group of Arabs decided to throw rocks at people praying at the Western Wall.
These actions are not new, and because it was done on the Jewish new year of Rosh Hashanah, it was obvious that action needed to be taken. Israeli soldiers began shooting rubber bullets at the protesters. When this forceful action did not succeed in halting the rock throwing, real bullets were used. Arabs proclaim that Israel has control of some of their holy sites.
So instead of holding peaceful demonstrations, they decide to throw rocks at people praying. Israel had to protect its citizens from violence, so unfortunately they had to use violence. I can not understand why the media seems to favor the Palestinian cause. Israel is also the only democracy in the Middle East, hence they are allowed to speak their views. This is not the case in the rest of the Middle East.
Palestinian? s need to find a new way to handle their frustrations. Throwing rocks and being violent will not solve problems. Intellectual discussion will. Instead of venting their anger, they need to act civil. Unfortunately the peace will not come unless they stop committing these horrifying acts.
