Sarmiento 1 Immigrants in America “An immigrant is a person who comes to a country in order to live there permanently”, as defined in the Websters Dictionary (pg 385).
Immigrants come in all different shapes, sizes, and color. There all different in the way they look. Other persons would describe an immigrant to be a person that comes from another country to in this case America to look for a better life. Other immigrants come in search of work and others in search for an opportunity to learn and get a better education.
“America is a nation of Immigrants” this phrase is heard almost everywhere in America. During the 20 th century many Immigrants came here and were treated unequal because of their differences. During the 20 th century the people from countries like Poland, Italy, and countries in Europe began to pay more attention to the United States. As they began to pay attention to the United States they noticed that the population was growing. The U. S.
also had a reputation for its democratic government and for all its work opportunities. As all these people saw all the differences going on, they thought that this country was a better opportunity for a better life. America would be a life free of problems and poverty. Atleast most of the poeple that immigrated to this country thought that. For other immigrants their was a different reason, they didn’t come because of their communist government.
